Pilot Project for Applying AI to Energy Management – Central Denmark Region
Customer: Central Denmark Region
In brief
With over one million square meters of building mass, the Central Denmark Region faced a significant challenge: to professionalize energy management across the organization—without adding more resources. The solution was to activate existing data with new technologies.

Large-Scale Energy Management Without Additional Consumption
The Central Denmark Region (RM) is one of Denmark's largest property owners, with over 1 million m² of buildings distributed across hospitals, psychiatric units, and social institutions. Although the region has ambitious goals in its sustainability strategy—including CO₂-neutral operations by 2030—the task was to strengthen the foundation for professionalizing energy management in a complex organization without adding more resources, but instead making much better use of existing data from more than 4,000 consumption meters.
Results
Strategy & Organization
4B Consulting assisted in preparing a recommendation note and a draft of a common project plan for energy management across the entire organization. We mapped existing roles and responsibilities in the operating organizations to streamline workflows and knowledge sharing.
From Data Volume to Data Value
The region already had an extensive metering system and access to large data volumes—but lacked structure, frameworks, and technological support to use them effectively. The solution was not to buy new, but to get more out of what they already had: data, people, and technologies.
